I've got a short question on meshing with GMSH. I'm trying to model a Karman vortex street and would like to use a sphere instead of a cylinder. However, I do not seem to find any example showing boolean-type operators (intersection, union, difference) and did not find an entry in the gmsh manual either.

Looking at the definitely more elaborate showcases here on the website, I was wondering whether anyone could give me a hint.

Thank you!

I would do it the hard way, as I'm not very familiar with the boolean-type operators.

especially when vortex streets are the goal then the layers next to the sphere should be as nice as possible. well what is the hard way? start with a logical cube which will become the sphere surface (have a look at the circles in the 5th tutorial). then add a layer to it. finally go all the way with blocks to the model boundaries. all of this written as an editable script of course :-)

Enjoy!
